Tasting Notes

The 2025 Luna Beberide Godello is a fresh, aromatic and beautifully balanced white with the combination of citrus, orchard fruit and savory herbal character that makes Godello so appealing.

The nose is expressive and floral, showing white peach, yellow apple, pear, citrus, rose petals and fennel, with subtle notes of hay, wild herbs and mineral stone emerging as it opens.

On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with crisp acidity balanced by a soft, almost creamy texture. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit, ripe pear and yellow fruit are followed by distinctive fennel and mineral notes. The finish is clean, persistent and slightly savory, with a refreshing citrus character.

One of the things I like about this wine is that it has more personality and texture than its price would suggest.

🍇 Interesting Facts

Godello is one of Spain's rising white grapes

Godello has become one of the most exciting white varieties in Spain, particularly in Bierzo and neighboring Valdeorras. It can produce wines that combine the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc or Albariño with the texture and mineral complexity of Chardonnay.

Luna Beberide specifically focuses on native varieties of Bierzo, particularly Godello and Mencía.

Old-vine Godello

This is one of the best stories to tell about the wine.

Luna Beberide has worked to recover vineyards more than 60 years old, using clonal selections from old Godello parcels in Bierzo. The vineyards are located at elevations ranging roughly from 500 to 1,000 meters, depending on the parcel.

That old-vine material helps explain why this wine has considerably more concentration and character than many inexpensive Spanish whites.

Three to six months on the lees

There is some variation in the published technical information depending on market/release: the winery currently describes the Godello as spending three months on its lees in stainless steel, while current retail information for the 2025 vintage lists six months on lees.

Either way, the important takeaway for your customer is that this isn't simply a quick, stainless-steel-fermented white. Lees aging contributes texture and weight while preserving the wine's freshness.

Bierzo's unique soils

The vineyards include clay-limestone soils and decomposed slate, which contribute to the wine's mineral and savory character.

That combination of limestone + slate + altitude + old vines is a big part of the reason Bierzo Godello has become so interesting to sommeliers.

2025 is a brand-new release

The 2025 vintage is just reaching the market. One Spanish retailer specifically notes that the 2025 has just been released and does not yet have a vintage-specific score, while another current listing shows 91 Parker for the 2025. Because I couldn't independently verify the underlying Robert Parker review, I'd leave the 91-point claim off your website for now rather than risk attributing an older-vintage score to the 2025.

That's actually fine—this is a wine where the value and old-vine story are more compelling than a score.

🍽️ Food Pairings

This is an excellent restaurant wine because Godello's combination of acidity and texture makes it incredibly versatile.

Try it with:

  • 🦪 Oysters
  • 🦐 Garlic shrimp
  • 🦀 Crab
  • 🐟 Grilled branzino or sea bass
  • 🐟 Halibut
  • 🐙 Grilled octopus
  • 🍗 Roast chicken with herbs
  • 🐖 Pork tenderloin
  • 🥗 Salads with citrus dressing
  • 🧀 Goat cheese
  • 🥘 Spanish seafood dishes

Why We Love It

This is one of those wines where the quality-to-price ratio is the story.

Godello can sometimes get lost behind Spain's better-known Albariño and Verdejo, but serious examples can be incredibly compelling. Luna Beberide gives you old-vine Godello, high-elevation vineyards, limestone and slate soils, and lees aging—yet it's still positioned as an affordable everyday white.

"Think Albariño meets Chardonnay—with a distinctly Spanish personality."

It would also be a fantastic bottle for someone who usually drinks Sancerre, Chablis, Albariño or Sauvignon Blanc and wants to discover something new.
