  • Producer: Champagne Lallier, Aÿ, France. Aÿ is a Grand Cru village.
  • Blend: 70% from the 2021 harvest and 30% reserve wines from 2020. 49% Pinot Noir, 44% Chardonnay, 7% Meunier.
  • Where the grapes come from:
    • Pinot Noir: Aÿ, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Bar
    • Chardonnay: The Côte des Blancs, Montgueux and Sézanne
    • Meunier: The Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne
  • Winemaking: About 5–10% of the base wine is fermented and aged in oak, on the lees. The reserve wines also age on fine lees.
  • Aging: At least 36 months on the lees, then at least 3 months after disgorgement
  • Dosage: 7 g/L (Brut)
  • Alcohol: 12.5%
  • Tasting notes: Pale gold. Lime, mandarin and white flowers, then brioche and fresh hazelnut. The palate is pure and fresh, with a subtle salty, sea-air note, a Pinot Noir core and a long, deep finish.
  • Food pairings: As an aperitif, or with ceviche, crudo, smoked shellfish, canapés and vegetable tarts
  • Serving: 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip glass

Interesting facts

  • Lallier was founded in 1906 in Aÿ
  • The cellar master, Dominique Demarville, was chef de cave at Veuve Clicquot from 2006 to 2019. R.021 is the first Réflexion he oversaw from vineyard to bottle.
  • The Réflexion concept: It’s a non-vintage Champagne that lets one harvest’s character show instead of blending it away. Demarville calls it “a non-vintage wine with a touch of a vintage and the consistency of a non-vintage.” The number on the label is the base year, so R.021 means 2021.
  • Lallier only makes a Réflexion when the harvest is good enough. There was no R.017, because the 2017 harvest would have needed too much reserve wine.
  • Demarville built a house “cocktail” of yeasts selected from Lallier’s own vineyards.
  • The R.021 is the first release with a Rosé alongside the Brut.

Title to, and ownership of, all alcoholic beverages passes from a Licensee to the purchaser at the licensed retail premises or warehouse and state it is purchased in and the purchaser takes all responsibility for shipping it from the licensed retail premises or warehouse to his/her home state. By arranging for transportation of the alcoholic beverages, the retailer is providing a service to and acting on behalf of the purchaser. By utilizing this service, the purchaser is representing that he/she is acting in a fashion compliant with his/her local and state laws regarding the purchase, transportation, and delivery of alcoholic beverages. The purchaser represents that he/she has obtained any required permission, paid any required fees, is working through properly licensed intermediaries where required, is legally entitled to take possession of alcoholic beverages, and is legally entitled to take quantities ordered and once again authorizes that he/she is 21 years of age.

International Shipping

Generally, we do not ship internationally, as some countries have restrictions on wine/sake shipping. Please send an email to elizabeth@inthecru.com before purchasing. In all cases, local taxes and shipping will be paid by the purchaser.

Signature Policy

For successful delivery of your wine or sake on the initial try, we highly advise selecting an address where an individual aged at least 21 is present to sign for the package. Legally, wine cannot be left without such a signature. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund shipping fees for packages returned due to the absence of an adult for signing. Shipments cannot be sent to APOs, FPOs, or P.O. boxes. Additionally, deliveries will not be made to individuals deemed intoxicated by the driver.
