Moulin-à-Vent AOC, Beaujolais, France
Tasting Notes
One of the most elegant expressions of Gamay, this single-vineyard wine opens with enticing aromas of blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, crushed violets, and black tea. The palate is beautifully layered, offering vibrant red and dark berry fruit framed by silky tannins, hints of baking spice, mineral undertones, and a long, refined finish. Powerful enough to age, yet graceful enough to enjoy today.
Interesting Facts
- Single-Vineyard (Lieu-Dit): "Champ de Cour" is one of the most highly regarded vineyards within the Moulin-à-Vent Cru, known for producing wines with exceptional structure, elegance, and longevity.
- Ancient Granite Soils: The vineyard sits atop pink granite with deep layers of river-worn pebbles, contributing the wine's signature minerality and finesse.
- The King of Beaujolais: Moulin-à-Vent is widely considered the most age-worthy of Beaujolais' ten crus, often earning comparisons to fine Pinot Noir from neighboring Burgundy.
- Estate History: Château du Moulin-à-Vent traces its history back to the 18th century and is named after the iconic windmill that has overlooked the vineyards since the 15th century.
- Burgundian Winemaking: Unlike many traditional Beaujolais wines, the estate emphasizes destemming, gentle extraction, and oak aging, creating wines with remarkable depth and aging potential.
